OVHcloud

European hyperscaler with the cheapest dedicated bare metal in the West.

OVH is what European companies pick when AWS is too expensive and Hetzner is too unmanaged. Their dedicated server pricing — €40/mo for a 6-core Xeon with 32 GB RAM under the Eco / Kimsufi brand — has no equivalent on the major US hyperscalers.

The dashboard experience is the rough edge. There are several control panels (Manager, OVHcloud, Public Cloud) that don't share a consistent UX, and provisioning is slower than the developer-cloud generation. Worth the friction if your workload benefits from dedicated hardware; less compelling for a small Django app where Hetzner Cloud will do.

Pros & cons

What works
  • + Bare-metal dedicated servers from €40/mo (Eco / Kimsufi)
  • + Anti-DDoS included on every plan, infrastructure-grade
  • + 34 datacenters across Europe, North America, and APAC
  • + Compliant with HDS (French health data), ISO 27001, SOC 2
What doesn't
  • Dashboard is notoriously confusing — three different control panels, only some translated to English
  • Provisioning a dedicated server can take 24h on first order
  • A 2017 fire in their Strasbourg DC caused multi-day outages and cooled enthusiasm for SBG-region single-host setups
