UpCloud

Finnish cloud known for its MaxIOPS storage benchmarks.

UpCloud's claim to fame is storage. Their proprietary "MaxIOPS" backing benchmarks consistently above generic NVMe, which matters if you're running database-heavy workloads where disk latency is the bottleneck. Independent benchmarks (e.g. vpsbenchmarks.com) put them at the top for sustained random I/O.

Outside that, pricing is on par with DigitalOcean and feature parity is close. Pick UpCloud if your workload is database-heavy or if your business is in the EU and a Finnish provider is a procurement advantage.

Pros & cons

What works
  • + MaxIOPS proprietary storage outperforms standard NVMe in workload tests
  • + Per-second billing, not per-hour
  • + 99.9999% SLA with payouts that actually trigger
  • + Generous private networking included
What doesn't
  • Pricing matches DigitalOcean — no headline discount
  • 14 datacenters but no Latin America presence
  • Smaller community than DO/Linode means fewer how-tos and tutorials
