UpCloud
Finnish cloud known for its MaxIOPS storage benchmarks.
UpCloud's claim to fame is storage. Their proprietary "MaxIOPS" backing benchmarks consistently above generic NVMe, which matters if you're running database-heavy workloads where disk latency is the bottleneck. Independent benchmarks (e.g. vpsbenchmarks.com) put them at the top for sustained random I/O.
Outside that, pricing is on par with DigitalOcean and feature parity is close. Pick UpCloud if your workload is database-heavy or if your business is in the EU and a Finnish provider is a procurement advantage.
Pros & cons
- + MaxIOPS proprietary storage outperforms standard NVMe in workload tests
- + Per-second billing, not per-hour
- + 99.9999% SLA with payouts that actually trigger
- + Generous private networking included
- − Pricing matches DigitalOcean — no headline discount
- − 14 datacenters but no Latin America presence
- − Smaller community than DO/Linode means fewer how-tos and tutorials
